As I am writing this I am on the bus to NY from Atlantic City, where last night I had one of the best concert experiences ever. My sister and I attended the "25th Anniversary of Freestyle Concert" at the Trump Taj Mahal. Pretty much every Freestyle artist you can think of was there. It was so exciting to watch Stevie B, George Lamond, T.K.A., Lisa Lisa, Lissette Melendez, Corina...and well every performance was kind of great honestly. We had been waiting so long to attend a Freestyle event and I'm so glad our first one was this concert. And I must admit I get excited at every concert I attend. Sometimes to the point that I want to cry of happiness. Yes, music has that effect on me. I'm weird, so what? Haha.
This definitely ranks as one of my favorite concerts though. The music is just so pure and true, and honestly sometimes I wish I would've been alive 10 years sooner so that I could have enjoyed the 80's and 90's music that I like so much at its prime. I don't find the music of today as heartwarming. Most songs on the radio today are about sex, lust and money. We need to bring back and keep alive the music that comes from the heart. At the concert last night, as I was looking around I saw people from different cultures and all ages. It's a beautiful thing when music can bring all kinds of people together. My only gripe about the people last night were the drunk guidos. That isn't so relevant to my story here because there are always annoying people in a big crowd but I had to put that out there.
I really wish that there were new artists emerging in Freestyle and Dance. The old-schoolers are definitely still doing their thing and trust me they still look good. A lot of them still move the same and sound exactly the same so by no means am I saying they should stop. But I do think it's time for new voices to be heard, and for new fans to be captured. I won't let it die.
